Microsoft 365 Updates: March 2022

18 March 2022

Every month we share the top M365 updates from Microsoft for IT Managers and Users.

Microsoft Teams Updates

Chat Density

Users now have the ability to fit 50% more messages on the screen in Teams chats with Microsoft's new 'compact' theme.

Find this new feature: Settings > General > Themes > 'Compact' style

Linkedin integration

Users can add their Linkedin profiles to their teams account so that other users in the organisation can learn more about them (this is especially useful for remote workers and new joiners!).

Linkedin profiles can be found at the top of 1:1 chats, alongside files, etc. N.B. This is expected to be completed in April 2022.

Single user teams view

Admins can now see every team a user is part of, in a single view. Admins can open the user detail page of any user by going to the Users > Manage users page and selecting any user from their tenant.

External guest syndication

Shared channels will be rolled out as part of Teams public preview program. Team owners who are enrolled in the Teams public preview program will see shared channels as an additional channel type while creating a channel.

With B2B Direct connect, there's no need to add the external user as a guest in your organisation. Cross-tenant access policies let admins manage B2B direct connect for their organisation. A shared channel can be shared with as many organizations that can be specified in the Azure AD cross-tenant access policy. External collaboration is off by default. N.B. This is expected to be completed in April 2022.

Microsoft Admin Updates

Retirement of superseded Azure AD Connect Sync versions

If you run a retired version of Azure AD Connect, it might unexpectedly stop working. You also might not have the latest security fixes, performance improvements, troubleshooting and diagnostic tools, and service enhancements. Speak to one of our experts about how to upgrade.

Automatic blocking of VBA macros in files downloaded from the internet

With this change, once a user opens an attachment or downloads from the internet an untrusted Office file containing macros, a message bar displays a Security Risk that the file contains VBA macros obtained from the internet with a Learn More button. N.B. this will start to be rolled out in early April 2022.

Public preview of tenant-level analytics for Power Automate

Admins will have the ability to monitor Usage, Maker Activities, and Inventory of cloud flows across the environments they manage.

New Commerce Experience

Microsoft's New Commerce Experience (NCE)  is now live, with new billing and payments terms in effect. If you're not sure how this affects your Microsoft estate, speak to one of the team today and we will help you through the new process.
