Meet... Chris Webbon

15 September 2017

Chris joins the Ideal finance department to cover Zoe's maternity leave. Here we find out what she does, what she likes and what she's looking forward to.

Welcome to Ideal! What's your new job title?

Thank you! I am the credit controller to cover Zoe’s maternity leave.

What will you be doing day to day?

I’ll be chasing customers for payment, raising invoices on QuickBooks, posting payments onto the customer accounts on QuickBooks, producing reports to show the position of our aged debt and overdue invoices… and if my first week's anything to judge by I'll be eating fabulous cakes most days!

What attracted you to Ideal?

Before I came for the interview I have to say I was really impressed with the website. It made me keen to work for Ideal for a range of different reasons: location, the modern offices, the positive and ambitious work values, the growth and success of the business, bonuses and benefits package, and of course those little extra touches that a lot of companies don’t think of such as the volunteering day, charity fundraising, free fruit and yoga!

What are you most looking forward to?

Becoming more familiar with our customer base so that day-to-day I won’t be referring to my notes very often.

Tell us about your career in 100 words or less

I have many years’ experience in credit control and accounts receivable, having worked in the aerospace Industry for 19 years before being made redundant last year. I worked for an American company that's a global leader in its field, as accounts receivable supervisor for the EMEA region. I looked after a team of six people: the pace was very fast, and the volume was phenomenal. It is nice to see some of the names of my old customers on the ledger here: AJW and Cobham for instance.

What will be your biggest challenge(s)?

Getting to grips with the account codes to make sure I raise the invoices correctly!

In five years, what do you hope to have achieved?

For a while after my redundancy I worked in a financial accounting role which made it clear to me that credit control is what I enjoy doing. I’d like to continue in this field.

What do you do outside work?

MurphytheCain.jpgMy kids are both at uni, so now our cairn terrier, Murphy, is my baby - you can see how cute he is on Instagram! Therefore I like to go dog walking, and I also like gardening and yoga. I keep in touch with my old work buddies when we go to karaoke at Lucky Voice (love it!). Please don’t ask me to sing as I’m not that good… but when I get in that booth I am fantastic!

Recommend a film, TV show, game or book

I love to read, and my favourite genre is murder thrillers. I’m finding now that I have read so many and I think I am up to date with all my favourite authors, so now I am reading more historical novels (the bloodthirsty ones, not the romantic ones). However I read a book recently that didn’t fit any of those genres and was really great. It’s called The Universe Versus Alex Woods, by Gavin Extence. It's basically a story about an unlikely friendship. Give it a go!
