Emily Langler is one half of Ideal's People and Organisation team. Discover what she does, what she likes, and what she's looking forward to.
Welcome to Ideal! What's your new job title?
Thanks! I’m now Ideal’s HR and business support executive.
What will you be doing day to day?
My role within the company is a varied one - I’m one half of the People and Organisation Development team, so I'm here for all HR needs. Alongside that I’ll be responsible for general office management and health and safety, as well as helping out our MD when he needs it! So far, no two days have been the same for me… I love that!
What attracted you to Ideal?
I was initially drawn in by the ethos of Ideal. Right from the very beginning it was sold as a place where you can be yourself, build your career, work hard for what you want and have fun whilst you do it… and that’s something that has continued to ring true since starting. From my very first conversation with our human resources director, Elissa, it was clear that Ideal is striving to be ahead of the curve. To be part of a company that is so passionate was something that had me hooked from the word go!
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m really excited to be starting at a company that has such high aspirations, and to be able to grow with them. It’s such an excellent place to be able to utilise the skills I’ve already got and also to increase them tenfold. I've become involved with the STEM ambassador scheme, which is an amazing opportunity to be part of a team going out into locals schools and colleges, and helping inspire young people to choose careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Tell us about your career in 100 words or less
I was given the opportunity to go straight in to an HR role when I left university and, although I didn’t really have a clue what that meant, it seemed like too good an opportunity to turn down. I have always enjoyed the varied nature of the role and the opportunities to get involved with so many different elements of a business.
What will be your biggest challenge(s)?
At the moment my biggest challenge is getting my head around the technical elements of Ideal - but I'm hoping that’s something that will come with time, and with people being kind enough to answer my questions!
In five years, what do you hope to have achieved?
I would love to be able to say that I’ve helped Ideal to become even more diverse, and a business that is inspiring young people to get into STEM careers.
What do you do outside work?
I’ve been dancing and singing since I was little, and still spend a lot of time doing musical theatre. I’m almost always rehearsing for something: currently it's Priscilla, Queen of the Desert! I have been known to teach the odd tap dance after a drink or two, if anyone’s interested…
Recommend a film, TV show, game or book
My book recommendation will always be The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I’ve actually lost count of the number of times I’ve read it, and it never gets old for me.
