Let's talk

Meet... Guy Cleverley

29 June 2016

Guy's one of several new starters in June - we find out what he does, what he likes, and what he's looking forward to.

Welcome to Ideal! What's your new job title?

Project Manager

What will you be doing day to day?

Working as a member of the PMO team here at Ideal. With PMO colleagues, I'll be actively managing our broad project portfolio, and supporting colleagues and customers with the delivery of great solutions and products.

What attracted you to Ideal?

I wanted to work for a local technology company who are growing and committed to excellent customer services - that's something that I've always prided myself on, having honed my project management skills over more than 10 years. Being able to contribute to the ongoing success of Ideal and learning new skills and gaining experience. Learning is really important to me: it's about growing your skills and experience.

What are you most looking forward to?

Learning, both technically and about the business, and being able to contribute to Ideal's ongoing success.

Tell us about your career in 100 words or less

I worked in the mainframe team of a Lloyds Bank subsidiary for seven years, before moving into open systems and networking. The first 15 years of my IT career were spent in large financial organisations where I project-managed many infrastructure projects across Europe, Asia, Japan and Australasia. Following this I moved into ICT Management, first at a large Independent School based in East Sussex. My next role was as an IT Manager for a global HIV Aids charity, helping provide ICT services, and aiding collaboration with many global partners and civil society groups.

What will be your biggest challenge(s)?

Probably containing my enthusiasm! Initially my focus will be to support the delivery of projects, and alongside this to tune and grow our project management skills and tools - not just within the PMO team but also to share and demonstrate why project management is so important with colleagues right across Ideal.

In five years' time, what do you hope to have achieved?

To have contributed to Ideal's goals and to have helped deliver some great projects and services for our customers; helping to enhance our project management and sharing PM skills with colleagues.

What do you do outside work?

I'm a big cycling fan - I even used to race bikes in my teens and twenties back in the 80's and 90's. Also swimming and reading: I love books, and sitting in cafes with a decent coffee.

Recommend a film, TV show or book

That's a really hard question! I'm a big fan of several writers: Neil Gaiman, Kazuo Ishiguro, Scarlet Thomas and Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I really loved 'The Night Circus' by Erin Morgenstein, which was an amazing debut novel and a fabulous read.
