Let's talk

Meet... Jo Morrison

28 February 2018

Our new sales manager, Jo Morrison, has had a diverse career so far. Discover what she brings to Ideal, what she does outside of work, and what she's looking forward to.

Welcome to Ideal! What's your new job title?

Sales manager.

What will you be doing day to day?

My role within the company is to focus on the sales academy team. Creating sales opportunities, training, coaching, motivating. Prospecting and working with new and existing customers, but most importantly bringing in new business and making sure that all leads are followed up and nurtured until they become a customer.

What attracted you to Ideal?

Ideal is such a great environment to work in, and it offers such a wealth of industry expertise. Ideal has a culture that is clearly defined within the existing foundations and allows great scope for growth and collaboration.

What are you most looking forward to?

Developing a future generation of incredible sales people who are focused on the Ideal customer experience. Building the Ideal customer experience, and expanding the sales academy. Working with some incredible talent within the company and expanding my personal knowledge in the process.

Tell us about your career in 100 words or less

It's been diverse, and often within challenging environments. Training and coaching have been the strongest thread, starting as a physical training instructor in the British Army. I was attached to the military for 10 years, working in Germany for the British Forces Youth Training Scheme and Northern Ireland for the civil service. I worked in B2B sales for five years, then founded and ran a personal training studio in Manchester for 15 years before selling it and moving to London. Since then I've helped set up operations for a large retail outlet, and coached sales teams within customer-facing and call-center environments.

What will be your biggest challenge(s)?

I look on challenges as being a very positive process for any role. I'm working within a new industry, so getting up to speed quickly I guess is the biggest challenge.

In five years, what do you hope to have achieved?

My five-year plan would be to have created and expanded the Ideal sales academy to be a centre of excellence for IT sales professionals. On a personal level I have set myself a goal to talk on stage at a TEDx event within the next 12 months.

What do you do outside work?

I love running, and early morning is the best time for me. I also run/swim/run in the summer before work - it is a great way to start the day. Creating new foods is something I love to do, often experimenting with recipes to make them more healthy. I am also an ARNI (action for rehabilitation from neurological injury) instructor. I occasionally work with people who have stroke and brain injury rehabilitation requirements. I also volunteer for the Albion in the Community Speak Up against Cancer campaign.

Recommend a film, TV show, game or book

Best film for me is the Million Pound Note - love an old black and white film. My recommended Book is Dan Milman's Way of the Peaceful Warrior. I don't watch Television.
